SIGN UPS ARE NOW CLOSED!!
[Greetings from our brand new mod account!]
Okay everyone, the Christmas "Secret Santa" fic exchange is here! :D So now it's time to lay down the law:
GENERAL RULES
1. You must write either a ficlet of at least 500 words (no more than 1000) or 3 drabbles of at least 100 words each pertaining to your assignment.
2. Fics must not be rated higher than R. Please be tasteful and mindful of your recipient's wishes.
3. Obviously, you may only request/write about rare pairs.
4. All fics must be beta-read before submission. If you need someone to beta-read your fic(s), you can PM us (
rarepairs_mod) to beta-read it for you. However, we would prefer not to beta more than three submissions.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Send in your fics to rarepair.shorts.mod[AT]gmail.com with subject line "RPS Fic Exchange (your username)" no later than December 15. If you really, absolutely need an extension, CONTACT US first - but we can only guarantee you about a few days, since ideally we want to begin posting the fics around Christmas. There really should be no need for an extension anyway, since this is simply a drabble/ficlet exchange.
As far as dropping out goes... just please don't. Don't sign up if you know you won't have the time to write a quality fic for your recipient. If you do drop out of the exchange, you will not receive your gift - it will either be regifted or posted to the community for everyone. (We will, of course, check in with writers to make sure that this is okay with them, if need be.)

Sign-ups close November 21. Assignments will be sent out shortly after that.
MISCELLANEOUS
Optional prompt for fic(s): the beautiful side of evil
Also, don't be afraid to tackle a prompt from our Christmas-themed prompt table! :)
If you have any questions, PM us or leave a comment.
If you are having trouble with your assignment once it has been sent to you, please do not comment about it on this post. Comments are not screened, so it would be better if you emailed us. That way, you can maintain your anonymity, because this is an anonymous exchange.
Just an additional note: You may be worrying about the amount of time that you have to write; it probably seems pretty short. But we figured that, as all you have to write is 500 words, it wouldn't be too bad. If everyone ends up turning fics in late, however, we will probably be a bit more lenient about it.
Remember to tell your friends! The more the merrier!

Date: 2007-11-15 02:30 am (UTC)b. top three pairings you'd like to receive: Tom Marvolo Riddle/Minerva McGonagall, Tom Marvolo Riddle/Hermione Granger, Tom Marvolo Riddle/Luna Lovegood
c. specific things you want: Seeing a softer side to Tom Riddle would be awesome, but in the end he's still a bad person. A kind of love lost theme would be great. :)
d. specific things you DON'T want: I'm open to read anything the writer comes up with!
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? Yes
f. characters/genres you like to write: Tom Marvolo Riddle/Romance
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: Luna Lovegood/comedy

Date: 2007-11-15 02:52 am (UTC)b. top three pairings you'd like to receive: Kingsley/Charlie; Oliver/Percy; Bill/Remus
c. specific things you want: (i.e. give prompts, ideas, etc.) For a established couple, a special Christmas gift; for a first time, one of them is having a hard time at Christmas and the other one cheers him up.
d. specific things you DON'T want: Snape. Girly men. Sugary fluff.
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? m/m slash – yes; femmeslash – no.
f. characters/genres you like to write: most minor characters not Harry's age. Percy's age and above is fine. I like humor, some angst. I love first times. One of them is gay, the other one doesn't know he is. Masculine men. Fumblings.
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: Snape. Anyone Harry's age and younger. I can write fluff, but don't like to. No het or femmeslash.

Date: 2007-11-15 03:03 am (UTC)b. top three pairings you'd like to receive: Kingsley/anyone, Gideon/anyone, anyone from the original OotP (Note: slash or het is fine for the first two)
c. specific things you want: a first kiss, staying at Hogwarts through the Christmas holiday, a blind date
d. specific things you DON'T want: no cross gen
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? Yes to both
f. characters/genres you like to write: Honestly, I'm good with anything but cross gen.
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: I can't write Snape or Lucius very well, but I could do it, if I had to.

Date: 2007-11-15 03:15 am (UTC)b. top three pairings you'd like to receive: Severus/Barty, Jr., Hermione/Luna, Percy/Tonks
c. specific things you want: Tragicomedy, dark humor, and satire are absolutely love, as far as genres go. And I love cross-dressing, for either gender, but it's definitely not necessary. As for ideas, a fairy tale/fable/folktale AU or a story with some kind of basis in fairy tales/fables/folktales would be amazing; some stories that would be awesome are: The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wolf_in_Sheep%27s_Clothing), The Frog Prince (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Frog_Prince_%28story%29), Rapunzel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapunzel), Little Red Riding Hood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Red_Riding_Hood), Rumplestiltskin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumpelstiltskin), and The Snow Queen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Snow_Queen). Whatever story you go with (ones that I didn't list are perfectly fine, too! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Snow_Queen), the story doesn't have to be a direct AU of the story, or very closely tied to it, just use it as a jumping off point.
If that doesn't tickle your fancy/you want something else, have some prompts, and feel free to use one, all, none, any combination of them, or ask for new ones:
♥ "He's the cutest little boy. Makes it that much sadder, doesn't it?"
♥ "Look... I'm making eggs. There's no deeper meaning to anything I'm doing here. It's breakfast. Plain and simple."
♥ "Today's Horoscope: Something big is brewing behind your back."
♥ does not play well with others
♥ an emerald necklace
♥ "Sit down and have some tea."
♥ silver in the moonlight
♥ "Please don't cry too much."
♥ "But that's not fair."
♥ sweet anachronism
♥ "How can you blame me?"
d. specific things you DON'T want: Girly men, the usual sorts of squicks (incest, water sports/scat -- blood is fine in moderation, but not the other two), too much fluff
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? Absolutely-positively! ♥
f. characters/genres you like to write: Rita Skeeter! So help me, I love writing that woman. And Horace Slughorn. I lovelovelove writing Slughorn. Aside from those two, I dabble in a lot of genres, so I'll do anything there, and characters... hrm. I love writing Percy, Remus, Ravenclaw boys (Ravenclaws in general, really), Hermione, Luna, Neville, Lavender Brown, Zacharias Smith, Tonks, Sirius, Molly, Pansy, Daphne Greengrass, Tracey Davis, Tom Riddle/Voldemort... and I could probably go on, but I hope that's a long enough list? ♥
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: No specific genres, really, but I have a LOT of trouble writing Ron, Fred and/or George, James and Lily, and Harry. And I can't really get a good Kingsley in mind, so writing him... I can do it, but I'm never pleased with how it turns out.

c. specific things you want: humor if it's het, happy endings, fairy tales perhaps, any of the prompts from the prompt lists, "pretty" if it's femmeslash - enchanting or ethereal
d. specific things you DON'T want: too much fluff, too much angst, incestuous undertones, "everyone is gay OMG", excessive swearing
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? Yup.
f. characters/genres you like to write: I'll write anything I need to. XD
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: cross-gen, really old people

b. top three pairings you'd like to receive: Ginny/Viktor, Ginny/Gabrielle, Bill/Tonks, Percy/Hermione. Basically, the rarer, the better. ;)
c. specific things you want: Humor would be really great, but I'm also a fan of angst (just don't overdo it) and adventure. As for ideas... a twinkle of the eye, those kinds of subtleties. Something about numbers (brownie points if you use pi, e, or i). Or you can use any prompts we have. :)
d. specific things you DON'T want: No smut, or anything incestuous... and nothing too fluffy. Use obscenities sparingly and make it tasteful.
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? Femmeslash only.
f. characters/genres you like to write: I like to write the Weasleys, Sirius... pretty much anyone, I suppose. I think I could do just about any genre I had to.
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: I'd be afraid to tackle Fred and George, actually, and Bellatrix and Luna, too. But I'd take a stab at it if I had to.

Date: 2007-11-15 03:12 pm (UTC)b. top three pairings you'd like to receive: Tom Riddle/Hermione Granger, Cedric Diggory/Fleur Delacour, Viktor Krum/Cho Chang. (And if you don’t want to write het: Marcus Flint/Oliver Wood or Fleur Delacour/Cho Chang.)
c. specific things you want: Happy or hopeful ending; humor; realistic (i.e. not overly sappy) romance, friendship. Nothing depressing, please.
d. specific things you DON'T want: Heartwrenching angst. Cruelty. Character death. Harry/someone. Draco/someone.
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? Yes, either/both.
f. characters/genres you like to write: For this exchange: Hermione, Tom, Luna, Ginny, Neville, Pansy, Rita Skeeter, Fleur, Cedric, Viktor, Gregory Goyle.
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: I have no experience writing the Marauders, the Founders and (if we’re talking main character/in-depth) most of the people not of Harry’s generation (exceptions are Rita, Snape, Lucius and Narcissa).

Date: 2007-11-15 04:26 pm (UTC)b. top three pairings you'd like to receive: Blaise Zabini/Michael Corner, Dean Thomas/Pansy Parkinson, Hermione Granger/Tracey Davis
c. specific things you want: something festive like a party or ball scenerio. unusual ending not the typical happy or sad one. spell gone awry. maybe even throw some Greek and Roman mythology in there in terms of the spell gone awry. (not all these have to be done, at least one or two will make me happy and squee)
d. specific things you DON'T want: fluff, cross-gen, too much angst
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? Yes
f. characters/genres you like to write: Blaise Zabini, Theodore Nott (Most Slytherins with the exceptions of Gregory Goyle and Vincent Crabbe), Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley, Michael Corner, Dean Thomas, Alicia Spinnet, Angelina Johnson, Katie Bell/romance, angst, drama.
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: cross-gen, the marauders, the Founders, Luna Lovegood, Viktor Krum/comedy, parody

Date: 2007-11-15 11:10 pm (UTC)b. top three pairings you'd like to receive: (In no particular order) BillxTonks, Remus and/or Sirius x Snape and/or Lucius. McGonagall x Someone! :D McGonagall is one of my favorite characters, although I have trouble taking her love life seriously.
This is more than three, but I also like-- the Hogwarts ghosts and their mysterious lives, the Founders, SiriusxRosmerta, RemusxLily, OliverxSurprise-Me, Teddy Lupin, and anything involving the twins or the Marauders.
I’m not picky.
c. specific things you want: Humor. Romance. Angst. Heartache. Something that will either make me laugh, melt, or cry. Or all of the above. I'm a sucker for forbidden romances, unrequited love and the occassional love/hate. But then again, I'm JUST as much of a sucker for a good, rolling-on-the-floor-laugh-out-loud comedy. I guess it depends on the pairing and your mood. Something outside of the box would be nice. You can use any prompt on this community or others. Awkward moments/misinterpretations are always fun. To sum up; I don’t really know what I want, so stop asking me.
d. specific things you DON'T want: Nothing overly AU or crossgen. I can't stand incest, and I'm not usually comfortable with pairings where the two characters have large age differences. (Like students and teachers, you know?). I don't want overly girly men, femmslash, or explicit sex scenes. Het or mxm is fine. Try to be tasteful? Otherwise, I’m open to just about anything.
e. are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? MxM-- Yes. FxF-- Not so much.
f. characters/genres you like to write: I love writing Marauder’s Era, the Weasley brood and all members entailed therein, and the Order of the Pheonix (not the original, although that’s only because I haven’t tried yet). I also like Founders and the trio&company. Tonks and Dumbledore are cool too. I like writing romance, fluff, angst, or humor.
g. characters/genres you CAN'T write: I can’t write for most Slytherins and I’m absolutely terrible at Deatheaters in general. Snape & Malfoy are excluded. I have no experience with Slughorn, Voldemort, Tom Riddle or either Crouches. Sadism/masochism or abusive relationships are not my thing.

Date: 2007-11-15 11:41 pm (UTC)b. Top three pairings you'd like to receive: Sirius/Lucius, Bellatrix/Lucius, Sirius/Bellatrix
c. Specific things you want: Something original. Or just surprise me. I do like MWPP era…
d. Specific things you DON'T want: None of those obvious squicks… breathplay, scatt, waterplay, munging, necro, rimming… chan, saccharin sweet fluff, girly boys, stupid manwhore Sirius
e. Are you willing to write slash/femmeslash? Please, yes! I have no idea why I claimed a het couple…
f. Characters/genres you like to write: Sirius, Remus, Rabastan, Regulus, Bellatrix, Snape, Lucius, Ginny. Angst, humour, romance
g. Characters/genres you CAN'T write: Tonks, Hagrid, Hermione, Weasleys, McGonagall, Dumbledore, most teachers the squicks as above, fluffy romance, old people sex – nononononononononono, I don’t mind writing Moony but I hate Padfoot and definitely no animal sex
