Title: Crossing Lines
Character Pairing: Remus/Lily
Prompt: "Invisible Line"
Rating: PG
Word Count: 288
Summary: Remus Lupin knows exactly what he's doing. Exactly.
Author's Notes: Ahaha, so I finally got off my long stint of writer's block and wrote another one of these. :]
Link to Promp Table: You mean this pitiful ol' thing?
Remus can’t see anything; his hair is wet and heavy in his eyes. But he doesn’t dare to lift a hand to push the bangs out of his face. He doesn’t need to see; he knows what sort of boundaries he’s testing. No, Remus Lupin knows exactly what he’s doing.
He’s perched precariously on a line no one has verbally acknowledged. It doesn’t need acknowledgement; it follows Lily around like her shadow.
He should know this better than anyone.
And yet, he doesn’t touch his hair. The slightest movement could send him right back to where he started—back to the safe side of the line. For once, Remus doesn’t want to be on the safe side.
“Remus, Remus, I think I’m drunk,” Lily giggles, her breathe hot against his chilly cheeks. Her forehead is wet against his. He thinks some of her hair might be in front of his eyes too. Her hands cling to his robes, her body slumping against his chest.
“Yes,” he murmurs. The word slides out from between his teeth. His face does not move. He is watching the line.
“—Remus, I think it’s raining!”
“Yes.”
Her laughter shakes his whole body, but he does not move. He does not move even when she stumbles a little and swings her arms around his shoulders for support, burying her face unchecked into the hollow of his neck.
He should move. He should step away and take her by the arm back to the school. He should not let her hiccup into his neck, or lean into his chest like that. But mostly, he should watch the line.
That’s what he tells himself, anyway, as he puts a hand on Lily’s cheek and gently kisses her.

And that was especially poetic.
