Title: The Wedding Date
Pairing: Charlie/Neville, background Percy/Oliver

Summary: Ginny convinces Neville to be Charlie’s date to Percy and Oliver’s wedding.

“I’m surrounded by idiots!” Ginny exclaims when she meets up with Neville for their weekly coffee date. “Present company excluded of course.”
“Gee thanks,” Neville says dryly. “What did Ron do this time? Or was it the twins?”
“The whole damn family. Well almost all of them,” she grumbles. “Charlie and I are the only ones that don’t think Percy getting married is a sign the world is ending.”
“But he and Oliver have been together for years,” Neville says confused. “Isn’t it only natural that one of them would finally pop the question.”
“Except somehow that’s escaped the notice of everyone but Mum, Charlie, and Me,” Ginny says, rolling her says. “Mum because she knows everything and Charlie and I because we caught them in compromising positions.”
Neville snorts. “Is that how everyone besides your mum found out?” When the two of them had bonded while hiding out from the Carrows, they discovered that Neville had walked in on the couple in a far more compromising position than Ginny had. And no matter how hard he tries, it’s a mental image he’s never been able to get rid of.
“I’m starting to think so,” Ginny replies with a snicker. “As smart as they are, they don’t seem to have a lick of common sense.”
“So have the happy couple set a date yet?” Neville asks.
“Not yet,” Ginny replies. “It’s all dependent on Charlie.”
“Why is it dependent on him?” Neville asks, confused.
“Can’t have a wedding if the best man is still in Romania,” Ginny responds. “So basically, it’s all up to the dragons.”
“I’d suggest they just go elope in Romania, but I doubt that would go over well,” Neville says with a smirk.
“Mum would kill them,” she says seriously. “Literally kill them.”
“That wouldn’t surprise me,” he replies. “I’ve seen your mum angry, and she’s downright scary.”
Ginny leans forward conspiratorially. “You know, Charlie is single…” she begins.
Neville groans. He loves his best friend dearly, but it’s been her personal quest to find him a boyfriend ever since he came out to her and it’s starting to get tiring. “For the thousandth time, I’m not looking for a relationship right now, Gin.”
“That’s what Charlie says too, but it doesn’t stop Mum from harassing him every time he comes home,” she says. “You’re lucky she hasn’t started on you.”
“That’s what I have you for,” he says dryly.
“Well if you show up to the wedding without a date, you’ll be in her crosshairs,” Ginny responds. “Look I don’t even know if Charlie’s into girls or guys or even anyone. He’s never dated anyone as far as I know. But he’ll need a date and you’ll need a date – it’s an easy solution. Just think about it, okay.”
Neville sighs. “Fine, I’ll think about it.”

Neville ultimately decided that attending Percy and Olivers’ wedding as Charlie’s platonic date was better than having two Weasleys on his case about his lack of boyfriend. But now that the day has arrived, he finds himself incredible nervous. Charlie is incredibly attractive and as a result Neville fears that we won’t make it through the day without making a fool of himself. Thankfully Charlie’s Best Man duties keep him busy, which means it’s well into the reception before they really have a chance to talk.
“I’m not sure what Ginny did to get you agree to this, but thank you,” Charlie says once the rest of their table has departed for the dance floor. “This is the first time in years Mum hasn’t bugged me about settling down.”
“It’s saving me from the same fate supposedly,” Neville replies. “Though I doubt this is going to stop Ginny in her quest to find me a boyfriend. Which would blow your cover.”
“Or…” Charlie says leaning in. “We can milk this as long as we can. Who knows maybe something would come of it.”
“What do you mean?” Neville asks, assuming that he must be understanding Charlie wrong. After all, why would a former Quidditch champion be interested in him?
“I’m guessing you still see yourself as the same awkward kid you used to be, but you’re incredibly good looking Neville,” Charlie replies. “And you’re my baby sister’s best friend, which means you’re good people. It also means that if I pull my usual one-night stand routine, Ginny will kill me. And that is the only reason I haven’t snogged you senseless yet.”
“I… um… what?” Neville says stunned.
Charlie chuckles. “I’m guessing you don’t hear that often.”
“That would be a no,” Neville replies.
“How about we grab a coffee or something while I’m still in town,” Charlie suggests. “See what happens. And maybe give you an excuse to visit Romania sometime.”
“I’d like that,” Neville responds. He has no idea what he’s getting himself into, but he’s looking forward to finding out.
