Title: How people see it.
Pairing: Harry/male!Fleur
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 2070
Summary: Harry Potter never does the expected things or how Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons will never forget the Yule Ball.
Author's Notes: This was really hard to come up, but I hope you like! I end up twisting the dates a bit. In this story the Yule Ball happens after the Second Task, just because I needed some ground to work around with Fleur dismissal of Harry when he is chosen a champion. On a second note, this is a AU!genderswap, were Fleur is male, but Harry and other characters don’t change their genders. Only read if you are ok with it.
Hermione Granger
Victor’s arm was strong at her back, keeping her steady and staring the closed door. They were waiting to enter the ball with the other champions. She looked back to the stairs, hoping to see Harry or Ron and try to see their reaction to her date. What she saw instead was Fleur Delacour waiting by the stairs in a gorgeous ivory silk tuxedo.
She had to admit, while Victor was very interesting to talk, Fleur was a dream come true. Not only he blond with blue eyes, but he had the confidence to look vulnerable and sweet, almost like a girl, but at the same time cold and impenetrable to the one’s that approached him.
In the beginning she felt he was only arrogant and the way he treated Harry and Ron was simply rude, and, of course, Harry was just a little boy and Ron was staring too much, but neither did too much to receive such a reprimand. Her attention was diverted when Victor looked back and grumbled something she didn’t understand.
When she looked back, Harry was looking flushed, but with a small smile in his face. The thing was he was really close to Fleur, so close she thought maybe they were holding hands. Professor McGonagall’s voice sounded harsh, calling both Harry and Fleur to join them and to Hermione to look forward. Before she turned it finally downed in her what was wrong with the whole picture: Parvati was nowhere to be found and Fleur didn’t have anyone waiting for him.
Now, she wasn’t sure what would cause Ron to have a heart attack, her date or Harry’s.
Severus Snape
If was one thing Snape detested the most was to pretend he was enjoying his time. When Dumbledore announced all staff were obligated to come to the Ball, he been furious. Of course it was coming his way, most events at Hogwarts were compulsory to the teachers, but somehow he thought he would manage escape.
When the champions entered the room he wanted to show more distaste than ever, but one quick look to Dumbledore’s figure made him school his reactions and give a blank stare to the idiocy going in front of his eyes. Potter was stumbling beside the gracious Fleur Delacour, looking nervous and childish.
Of course, the idiot boy would get a date with Fleur after the second task. Only Potter would get good things from moronic actions. One look at Weasley’s face gave him the satisfaction to see that not all of Potter’s night would go well. That pleased him immensely.
Ron Weasley
What the hell was Harry doing with Fleur? Ok, the boy had been awfully good at the second task, saving Ron and Gabrielle, but why did Harry, his very straight friend, did to accept Fleur’s invitation to the Ball? And why didn’t Padma tell him anything?
“Where is Parvati, wasn’t she going with Harry?” He didn’t even look at her, choosing to keep his eyes at the champions that now occupied the central position in the room.
“He told her Fleur invited him and that Roger Davies would go with her. Harry even bought Parvati flowers to apologize, but I think Fleur thought about it, since Harry was stumbling with words. Fleur gave a marvelous speech, asking for forgiveness, he is such a well mannered boy, not unlike some.” He looked at her when he felt a pinch to his side.
She looked annoyed to have come with him, especially when he told her as soon as they entered the room he wouldn’t dance. When he decided to give her a apology, he saw a familiar face dancing with Krum: that couldn’t be, what the hell with people today? Why was Hermione dancing with him? He left Padma’s side and stared to stalk to the dancers.
Draco Malfoy
Damn, Potter and his way to make people pay attention only to him! Pansy was gushing at his side, saying Fleur was gorgeous and even scarhead Potter looked amazing by his side. The other Slytherin girls were giggling and pointing at them with glazed eyes.
Most people were whispering about them, even Snape seemed to pay attention to Potter and his date. Attention whore. That was definitely the best description for Potter. Not long after, he felt someone passing fast by his side, to see a ginger head stalking in a hideous set of formal clotting.
Interesting, Weasley was going to give a show and he would be silly not to use the opportunity to embarrass Potter further. He left Pansy side, and walked slowly to the front, now he would just have to wait and then cast the spell.
Olympe Maxime
She couldn’t believe in her eyes: Fleur took the Potter boy to the Yule Ball, without her permission.
It wasn’t proper, that made everything alright, and nothing was alright with Dumbledore’s plan to have two champions, not allowing for Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons to have the same number competing.
“Garçon stupide! Qu'en est-il pas se mêler aux autres champions.”[1]
Tomorrow she would talk to him! And be sure to alert him to the fact this was a very important competition. Just because the boy had being sweet “saving” Gabrielle, didn’t mean Fleur could lose the The Triwizard Tournament for it. She was distracted with her thoughts, but gasped when a redhead boy lunged forward and punched Fleur in the face. No one should touch her students, no one!
Charlie Weasley
Of course Ron would do something stupid like that: punching one of the champions, calling Harry a whore, and welling at Hermione because she went with Krum instead of him. He blamed his mother and her short temper, making Ron clueless, thinking he could get away screaming and spluttering moral nonsense to others.
He grabbed Ron and pulled him away before Harry’s date could punch him again in the stomach. For such prissy boy Fleur seemed to pack a good force in his arm. Harry looked angry and Hermione was trying to calm down Krum, Ron would be screwed if the Bulgarian decided to beat him too.
Carrying Ron out of the room was hard, because he was struggling to breathe at the same time he wanted to go back and do more damage and Charlie was almost himself punching the brat, so he would calm down already.
“Be quiet and stand still! What was that, Ron? Harry is your friend, Hagrid told me about this nonsense; how you were mad at Harry for entering the tournament, but geez! Do you really think Harry would want to go and confront a bloody dragon for fame? Don’t you realize that even if he would put his name, he would’ve told you? He always tells you things, Rony.”
“He didn’t tell me about Fleur. All month he been talking about Cho Chang and know he comes with Fleur Delacour, not only a boy, but the bloke that called him a little boy and been a prick with us. It’s almost as bad as if he came with Malfoy. ”
“Did you need to call him a whore? From what I hear Ginny murmuring around the house when I visit Harry never been with a girl or a boy.”
Ron looks embarrassed and he know it will be ten times worse in the morning when he will have to go and talk to Harry, apologize for the second time for being a prick with his friend. But, maybe, he will realized to just shut his mouth and see what really is going on before doing stuff like that. He really thought the twins would be the trouble makers; being an older brother really sucked.
Harry
Fleur was very efficient in putting his own nose back in place; he also got rid of the blood that felt in his tux. Harry wasn’t sure about what he was still doing here; clearly Ron punched Fleur because of him. So far Fleur hadn’t said anything; he just grabbed Harry’s hand and took him outside of the castle.
At first he didn’t really get what was going on. Fleur thanked him profusely for saving Gabrielle and they spent almost two yours, under Mrs. Pomfrey eyes, talking about their experiences so far at the tournament, while they rested in the infirmary. It was nice and Fleur was very witty and gentle once he started to look at Harry differently them the little boy he first meet.
Harry been preoccupied to find someone to join him in the Yule Ball and when Parvati suggested her and Padma to go with him and Ron, he said yes, not because he wanted them specifically, but because Cho wasn’t available he didn’t want to take another girl. Fleur approached him two days after the second task, alone and with a bright smile demanding Harry to go with him to the ball.
He was kind of lost with all, just because he didn’t even thought two guys could go together, but Fleur was very gentle in telling him that while not common, the Wizarding World didn’t glance much at homosexuals. When Fleur was charming both Parvati and Roger Davies he understood that even if he didn’t wish to go with the blond, he would. Fleur was very good at making people do what he wanted, very convincing and confident. Plus, he had the veela allure that just made mostly everyone, even boys felt for him.
Fleur was very dominating; having chosen the grey tuxedo and dragon boots Harry was using, as well as enchanting his eyes so he didn’t need his glasses. He demanded Harry to meet him at the bottom of the stairs and surprise him with the whole look. The guiding was nice, in a way. It was easier to take Fleur’s lead instead of fumbling to make things ok on his own.
Thinking back to when they entered the Yule Ball, he could see all eyes on him, which made him really uncomfortable, but Fleur simply squeezed his hand harder and lead him to dance. Even when he steeped in the boys feet, Fleur gave him a dirty look and showed him how to get it right, never speaking much, just being a very gentleman about all.
Of course Ron would screw things up, and Malfoy would try to get the better hand. What they didn’t count was that Fleur would shield Harry and make Draco turn into a ferret when he pulled to launch his own spell. Ron on the other hand had Harry’s elbow hit hard in his face and Fleur knee in his lad’s parts. All in all, they left everyone horrified; he could see Madame Maxime fuming with hate.
“Don’t worry about them, ‘Arry. I loved to dance with you.” Fleur smiled and held Harry’s hand to his chest. “Would you dance here with me?”
“There isn’t music and I..”
“Nonsense, you will do great! And I can make music.” Fleur pulled his wand and made some snow chance into a piano that started to play a slow dance Harry recognized as being muggle.
Fleur pulled him close and made his arm stretch in a dance position and even if it was cold and both of their breathing was rolling in a white smoke, neither seemed to care. Moments later, Fleur stopped and framed Harry’s face with his hands, and the kiss it came was so sweet Harry couldn’t imagine it was from a boy.
They stayed a few moments like that; eyes closed enjoying their lips touching. Madame Maxine interrupted them, pulling Fleur’s arm and screaming in French. Harry just smile at the scene, for the first time he wasn’t the one in trouble. His smile grew when Fleur winked at him before disappearing inside the castle.
Harry was going to talk with Hermione about boys, because he kind of liked that kiss, and he really didn’t know how this world thought about it. He went back to the castle when the wind seemed to get colder. The piano was left forgotten playing sweetly in the background.
We're standing in a light that won't fade,
Tomorrow's coming but this won't change,
Cause some days stay gold forever.
The memory of being here with you,
Is one I'm gonna take my life through,
Cause some days stay gold forever.
The End
