"What's it like to be you?" Ginny asks curiously, as she slides the pages across the table.
Astoria looks down at the set; it is Witch Weekly's speculations on which wedding gown the "darling Miss Greengrass" will choose for her "soon-to-be-announced nuptials." She raises an eyebrow. "I might ask you the same question," she says calmly, taking a sip of her tea. "I seem to remember an entire spread of the lovely young Weasley's glamorous attire. 'Wedding of the Century,' I believe they called it."
Ginny rolls her eyes. "Yes, but we weren't two rich Slytherin Purebloods with about a million different traditions to uphold." She has a glint in her eye. "Don't you have to sacrifice a goat or something?"
"Yes," Astoria replies primly, struggling not to smile. "There will be a bloodletting."
Ginny guffaws, then presses two fingers to her lips. The gesture is endearing. "You are joking, right?"
Astoria only gives her a knowing smile, then looks away. The photos are shiny and beautiful, each displaying a gown that probably equals the value of her entire Gringotts vault. She probably will have to choose one eventually, but she is not nearly tacky enough to wear anything Slytherin green, as several of the dress choices seem to suggest, horrifyingly enough. "This one looks like a torture device," she says, sliding the offending images back over to Ginny.
Ginny picks up the page and grins at it. "It's not so bad." Her smile fades as she looks up at Astoria. "In seriousness, what is it like? I'd like a clearer picture. Paint me your enormous mansions and expensive diamonds. The parties must be astounding. Dead boring, of course, but astounding."
"That's about the size of it." Astoria finishes her tea and rises slowly from her seat. "I've got that report to finish." Her fingertips graze Ginny's shoulder as she leaves.
Ginny stares down at the photographs for a while afterward, running her fingers over the collection of dresses. She finds it difficult to remember her own wedding. She wishes she could know what Astoria was thinking.
Astoria tries not to think about the photos at all, but she notices later that Ginny has pinned the article up in her cubicle. The phrase "soon-to-be-announced" is circled in a messy scrawl. Astoria frowns at it, feeling a bone-deep weariness, like something heavy pulling on her limbs. She quickly moves away.
