Amos watched as she passed him, strolling along as though he were just another human being, just another stranger in the middle of Diagon Alley. Cedric strained in his mother's grasp, his one free hand reaching towards Amos as his face scrunched up in desperate confusion. "Daddy!"

"Stop it," Amos heard Georgiana murmur, stopping in the street and kneeling to Cedric's level. He watched as she placed her hands on Cedric's cheeks, and could almost hear her little sigh of disappointment before she spoke. "Daddy's gone, Cedric."

"All set," said Lucius as he emerged from the shop, dumping a pile of books into Amos's arms. "The complete history of the goblin wars, unabridged. I do hope it's to your liking; I shouldn't like to dive back in there. The things they have you do in that office can be so tedious, can't they? I am glad not to work for the Ministry, I can safely say." He paused, and placed a hand on Amos's shoulder. "Are you all right, Amos?"

Amos could only watch as his wife and son walked away from him once again. They did not look back.

*****

"I'm afraid I'll need to ask you to leave," Lucius said gently, ushering Amos towards the door. "Narcissa is due home at any moment."

"Oh, of course, I wouldn't want to cause any unrest in your marriage." Amos glared viciously and held his ground in the hallway, arms folded over his chest.

"Amos, this is hardly the time or place for this argument."

"Look at my life, Lucius. Do I try to reunite with Georgiana? You cannot do the same for me."

Lucius returned the glare. "You do not try to reunite with the woman because she will not have you. It has nothing to do with me."

"You're wrong," said Amos, though he really couldn't say if he was.

*****

They kissed brutally, mouths crashing together as hands grasped hard, leaving scratches and bruises that would not fade quickly. Their passion flared in painful bursts, burning brightly and extinguishing fast. "You know," said Amos, after one such burst, "I can hardly remember what it used to be like."

"What do you speak of, Amos?" Lucius leaned over him, propping himself up on an elbow as he looked down upon Amos.

"Our days in school," Amos said dully. "I can't remember them. It used to be nice, didn't it?"

Lucius's voice was harsh, almost angry. "It still is nice."

"Is it?" Amos asked curiously. "I can't tell."

Lucius growled and mounted Amos again. "I'll make you see," he hissed, but it wasn't nice at all, it was as hard and brutal as it had been before, as it would always be.

*****

"I miss her," Amos said miserably, staring out the window as he watched the rain pouring down, the clouds obscuring the sun.

"Then return to her. Beg on your knees for her, Amos; she is sure to accept you." Lucius sounded angry. "I can't see why she wouldn't."

"Because I've betrayed her," Amos said, turning to face Lucius, who was dressing on the other side of the room. "I've betrayed my love."

"You know, Amos," Lucius replied, walking closer, coming over to Amos and kissing his neck, "I am beginning to suspect that you aren't as devoted to our relationship as you used to be."

"I can't remember how it used to be," Amos said, forcing a smile, "as you'll recall I mentioned."

Lucius did not smile back. "I see."

*****

"We're falling apart, aren't we?" Amos asked, as they walked along the grounds of the manor, watching the peacocks.

"I did hope to be your glue, Amos, but you are as melodramatic as ever," Lucius said with a sigh. "And you can't seem to let go of your woman."

"You still have yours," Amos replied angrily. "You keep forgetting that."

"Because it's not important," Lucius countered quickly. "You are all that matters, Amos. You don't seem to feel the same about me."

"How can I?" Amos stared at a pair of particularly majestic white birds, who walked gracefully past as though Amos were not even there. "You're a peacock, Lucius."

"What does that even mean?" Lucius asked, losing his customary cool for once. "You speak to me in riddles."

"I am saying," Amos said heavily, "that there doesn't seem to be a spell in the world that can fix us. Not anymore. No matter how many times you seduce me, not a single hocus pocus will make things right."

"Well," Lucius replied softly. "If that is how you feel."

*****

"I'm sorry," said Amos, standing wet and miserable on the doorstep, as rain crashed down upon him. "I want to make things right."

"You've been with him," Georgiana replied, hovering on the threshold with the door open; Amos could see Cedric's toys and paints strewn across the table.

"Not anymore," Amos replied, shaking his head. "I've changed, Georgiana. I'm not under his spell any longer. I love you."

"Well," Georgiana said. "It's a start."

*****

"Here you are," said Narcissa Malfoy, handing her husband a book. "Draco has been begging for new stories before bed; you can read him these." She paused, and raised an eyebrow. "Lucius, are you all right?"

Lucius could only watch as the Diggory family walked away from him, strolling along as though the Malfoys were just another couple of strangers in the middle of Diagon Alley. Amos was holding his wife's hand; he did not look back.

"Yes," said Lucius finally, taking the book and forcing himself to look at Narcissa. "I'll be fine."

I have to change my icon into a broken heart, probably... It's certainly better for them to go their seperated ways, but it's sad to read how they fall apart. Oh, but I always felt sorry for Georgiana, but that thing with Cedric was so not nice. Keeping that poor child away from his father like this. But then again I don't know if Amos tried to visit his adorable son... uhm, well, they're all not perfectly perfect, which gives this whole story a more mature aspect, especially compared to the first table. *hugs first table* I still love that one, too.

Ah, I just hope that someday Amos will remember how good he and Lucius used to work together when they were younger. Very excited for your last piece!
