It came without warning, as the things we least expect have a way of doing.
On a day that had begun in quite an ordinary manner, Teddy Lupin came to the rather extraordinary conclusion that he was in love with one James Sirius Potter. As he took a moment to fully digest this surprising new development, he realized the full extent of his feelings. This was no mere crush or infatuation, something that would fade or pass with time. Teddy never did things halfway, and clearly, this was no exception. He was completely, utterly, irrevocably in love with the dark haired, green-eyed scamp.
Sitting at his kitchen table, a forgotten cup of coffee growing cold, he wondered when it had happened. When had James, eldest son of Teddy's beloved godfather, the boy Teddy had known from infancy, when had he become someone that Teddy could consider a potential romantic partner?
The whole thing was ludicrous, of course. James was younger than Teddy, seven years younger to be exact. He was barely nineteen as compared to Teddy's twenty-six years. James was vivacious, gregarious, and more often than not, the center of attention. Teddy, though by no means shy or unsociable, tended to be much more reserved, not to mention all together bookish and at times, fond of his own company.
What would Harry and Ginny, who had always been like surrogate parents to Teddy, what would they say if they knew that he was in love with their first born? It was one thing for them to be accepting of Teddy's sexuality and another matter entirely to expect them to be understanding of the fact that he wanted to take James to bed and corrupt him.
More importantly, what in the name of Merlin was James going to say when he found out? Of course, Teddy could just not tell him, not tell anyone at all, but that would be dishonest, disloyal even. No, that simply would not do. Teddy couldn't fathom being anything less than forthright about his newly discovered feelings. It wasn't in his nature to engage in a lie, even one of omission.
In for a penny, in for a pound, right?
And then, on a day that began quite ordinarily, without warning, Teddy Lupin received the rather extraordinary news that one James Sirius Potter was in love with him, too.

Date: 2008-08-31 08:39 pm (UTC)I admit, it's from there that I first fell for them! Actually, I believe it was the spring exchange where I first read them, and then I've just fallen head over heels from there. Everyone's always looking for ways to tie Harry to the Blacks for good, this is as good as any!
