Their argument was loud. Loud enough to be heard by the entire floor and more than likely, the floor above and below. Weasleys didn’t believe in quiet and when Ron and Ginny started in on each other that morning, there was no stopping them.
Even if you wanted to avoid their argument, there was no escaping it. Insults were hurled back and forth at each other. Secrets were revealed for the entire department to hear and at the end of it all, Ginny stormed away with tears streaming down her face.
There were few places in the Ministry that were quiet and it was nearly impossible to find a private space for yourself. Ginny settled on the one place she knew few people would dare to enter. She locked herself into Kingsley’s office and threw herself into his large leather chair. Her cheeks were red with angry and resentment towards her older brother. It wasn’t the first time Ron had upset her and she was certain it wouldn’t be the last, but that didn’t make it any easier.
He had, of course, heard about the argument. Nothing escaped his knowledge. Especially things that he cared about the most. The fact that Ginny Weasley had become one of those things was more than a bit unnerving to him, but he decided not to focus on that at the moment. Better to address the problem head on and see what could be done.
As Kingsley walked into his office, he was prepared for Ginny to pretend that nothing was wrong. She hid her emotions more than he did some days and that was saying a lot. It wasn’t her anger that Ginny didn’t want to world to see. No, she hid her gentle and vulnerable side away instead. So, when the red headed sprite looked up and quickly hurried over to him, Kingsley was surprised. When she threw her arms around him and buried her face into his chest, he was shocked. And when Ginny looked up at him, her tear filled eyes filled with longing, Kingsley moved right passed shocked into dumbfounded.
“I just want to stop hurting all the time. Make it stop hurting so much,” she whispered.
He shouldn’t. Kingsley knew he shouldn’t. But she was far too tempting to ignore and Kingsley wanted his hurting to end as much as she did. Without saying anything, he bent down and captured her lips into long and deep kiss. They kissed each other passionately, each of them trying to rid themselves of their pain and bad memories. It was Ginny who pulled away first and gasped for air. She stared up at the man in front of her as her heart pounded in her chest. His kissed had taken her mind places she never dreamed of and Ginny knew, in that moment, that Kingsley could make her forget everything if she let him.
But, that’s the funny thing about getting what you want. Once you have it, you don’t want it any longer. She couldn’t forget the pain of the last few years. The sorrow made it possible for her to appreciate the moments like this.
“I changed my mind. I don’t want to forget.” Ginny smiled shyly up at Kingsley before turning and heading out of his office. At his door she paused and looked over his shoulder. “Distractions are welcomed though."
