Shadows danced on the wall of the bedroom. They moved hypnotically, keeping Lavender in that lull between waking and sleeping. Something had roused her but she didn’t hear anything now. She hovered on the brink, pressing her face into a cool spot of her pillow and letting her eyes drift shut.
The soft sound of footsteps brought her more towards wakefulness, and she rolled onto her back to see Parvati slipping quietly into the room. “You’re late, love,” Lavender said, voice thick with sleep. She’d tried to stay up, but she’d been exhausted from her day and finally gone to bed. “Y’ okay?” Her smile, looking as half-asleep as she was, took away any possible accusation.
“Two people called in, so I had to stay for another shift,” Parvati murmured wearily. She yawned once, and then again, unable to help herself. “Didn’t even have a chance to Floo call. Sorry.” She tugged at her clothes half-heartedly, struggling out of them. They stayed on the floor where they landed, unusual for her.
Lavender held out her arms when Parvati kept looking at the clothes. Her thoughts were obvious even through Lavender’s sleepy haze – Parvati thought she should pick up and was trying to find the energy to do so. “Come to bed,” Lavender murmured. “They can wait.”
Parvati slipped into bed gratefully, folded immediately into Lavender’s warm embrace. “Mmm.” Lavender snuggled closer to Parvati, leaning in and kissing her. It was warm, wet, sloppy, and, overall, sleepily affectionate. Parvati relaxed into it. Lavender could feel the stresses of the long day easing out of her lover’s muscles as Parvati melted into her. “Get comfy and sleep. You need it.”
Parvati turned over and Lavender curled around her, big spoon to her little spoon tonight. She affectionately cupped Parvati’s breast, earning a soft sound.
“Love you, Lav.” The words were sleepy and fading fast.
Lavender kissed Parvati’s shoulder and let her eyes drift closed. The shadows still danced over the wall and the bed, and this time they and the sound of Parvati’s breathing lulled her completely back to sleep.
