They hide together, huddled in corners as the storm rages around them. Death comes knocking at their door, and they stand against it, hands clasped tightly together as they look into the darkness. The Order fights, and they are on the front lines, soldiers of light.
The safe house is under a Fidelius Charm, and in it Alice feels safe and strong and powerful. They are the fortress, the wall, the golden chain of magic. Plans are made, lines are drawn, maps are laid out. The war blazes on.
And in the nights they hide together, huddled in corners as the storm rages around them. Lily wraps her arms around Alice and kisses her hard, the fire igniting in their hearts and stomachs as they lie together.
The world tries to normalize them, but they are fighting the war on multiple fronts. James Potter smiles his smile, but Lily Evans looks elsewhere. She looks at Alice, and Alice looks back.
