Draco stood underneath the floating candles feeling like an idiot. Terry wasn't going to come down to the party, all of Ravenclaw house hated him (not that Draco actually cared, or at least he could pretend not to), and he was going to be laughed at by his Slytherin friends. Laughed at, when Draco Malfoy was supposed to be the king. It was unthinkable. Draco looked up at the brightly-lit candles and wondered how much it might hurt to magic them over his head, so that he might drown in dripping wax.

Beyond the doorway, the students and teachers of Hogwarts danced and laughed together, spinning in elaborate dress robes and glittering Samhain outfits. Draco had initially preened happily over his own expensive set of black dress robes, imagining that Terry might swoon at the sight of them. Now, however, Draco only felt overdressed and useless.

He could practically feel Pansy Parkinson's eyes boring into him. She was trying to seem casual, like Draco's penchant for the male sex didn't bother her one bit, but it was a pathetic ruse, and Draco crossed his arms over his chest and scowled at everything. He was alone and he was going to have to dance with Pansy, who was only growing more irritating by the second. It was a terrible, terrible Hallow's Eve.

Until Terry Boot sauntered around the corner, humming to himself as though he weren't twenty minutes late. But Draco could forgive him, because Terry looked incredibly fit in his deep blue robes and he was smiling. "Good evening, Draco," he said, as he came to a stop beside Draco, who tried to sidle even closer without Terry noticing (by the look on his face, Terry definitely noticed, though he didn't seem too upset by it). "Nice robes."

Draco smirked. "Only the best for a Malfoy, of course," he said, then suddenly pulled a double take as he realized something horrifying. "What is that on your head?"

Terry looked up. "Oh, this?" he asked, touching the short silver horn that was protruding from his forehead. "I'm a unicorn. It's not too silly, is it? Anthony helped me transfigure it." He grimaced at the look on Draco's face. "We were supposed to come in costume, were we not? You hate it."

"Of course I hate it, you look ridiculous," Draco snapped. "I can't walk in there with you looking like that, they'll laugh at us."

Terry cocked his head at him. "Why does it matter? You can't please everyone, you know."

"You can at least please the right people," Draco protested. He pulled on Terry's horn; it didn't budge. "Get rid of that right away, or I will bring these candles down on you and burn it off."

Terry looked up at the floating candles and laughed. "It'd be such a shame to ruin these nice festive lights," he said. "So I'd better acquiesce." He muttered an incantation and tapped his horn with his wand, causing it to vanish in a little puff of smoke. "Better?"

"Yes, now you're actually handsome again," Draco replied.

"Well, I'm pleased that you're attracted to me," Terry said, making Draco blush. "It works out well for the both of us, as I seem to find you rather alluring as well. Now, shall we go in?"

Draco swallowed hard and puffed up his chest. "Yes," he said. "Let's."
