Ginny looks smaller in the Malfoy master bedroom, with its deep green curtains and the matching silk bedspread. Astoria has never realized just how dark it is in here, not until she has seen Ginny swallowed up in it. She supposes they both look small, small and pale in the splendor.
"Here is where the magic happens," Astoria says tightly, one arm sweeping out to encompass their surroundings. Ginny reaches out to touch the lush green blankets with a trembling hand; Astoria has the sudden urge to snatch her fingers away. It doesn't look right. She bites her lip.
"Where is he right now?" Ginny asks. She looks up; their eyes meet and Astoria is dizzy, blinded by the brightness of them. "Will he be home soon?"
Astoria hesitates. "I'm not certain," she says. "Something about meetings."
"And so you wait for him," Ginny replies brusquely. "Do you sleep in here with him?"
"Not until after the wedding." Astoria sighs. "You wanted to know what it was like to be me," she says quietly. "This is it. I wait for him."
Ginny looks around at all the green and turns back to Astoria with something even darker in her gaze. "It's too much information," she says. "I don't like it here."
Astoria laughs bitterly. "Then leave. Pretend you never came here. You could do so rather easily, I'd imagine."
They hesitate, and then Ginny shakes her head forcefully. "No." Her kiss isn't hesitant at all. Ginny is soft, but she is powerful. She pushes Astoria onto the bed and rumples up the dark green blankets. They are loud and frantic in the darkness, claiming it as their own.
Afterward, Draco will be the one who doesn't look right in the Malfoy master bedroom, the one swallowed up into nothing.
