Title: I’m Not Over
Pairing: Teddy/Lily Luna, Teddy/Victoire, Lysander/Lily Luna
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 2,477
Summary: “Teddy Lupin was ecstatic and it had nothing to do with his wedding day.” Even having a wife can’t stop Teddy Lupin from loving someone else.
Author’s Notes: The title of the story is from a song (I’m Not Over by Carolina Liar) that helped me to come up with this plot! I hope this fits the bill of what you wanted! I tried to incorporate as many prompts as I could without overwhelming the plot of the story. I was very pleased with the outcome and I hope you like it! Maybe after the reveal, I will write more of this because I’m very fond of what I produced. Enjoy!

Teddy Lupin was ecstatic and it had nothing to do with his wedding day. Sure, of course he was excited about that. He had thought about his parents the moment he had spoken his vows and it had taken a lot of his self-restraint not to cry. But he had other things to distract him now. The reception was beautiful and he found himself weaving in between people who were patting him on the back and stealing him into random bits of conversation. He didn’t let it bother him – he was the groom. He kept walking and shifting around until he almost walked past his new bride. She caught his hand and pulled him close. She was radiant; her brilliant blonde hair was curled and fell past her shoulders now – no longer in a sophisticated bun on top of her head. Her eyes met his and she kissed him sweetly on the lips. “Where have you been?” Victoire asked, smiling at him. She wound her left arm under his right and placed her other hand on his chest, looking up at him. Teddy simply smiled down at her. Even she couldn’t ruin his mood by holding him up. “Greeting everyone. I didn’t know you invited so many people here, I barely got out alive.”

Victoire smiled and kissed him again, chastely. “Let’s dance,” she said, slipping her hands around his neck. Teddy chuckled and pulled one of her hands from his neck, holding it in his hand. A soft, melodious violin started to play and he twirled her gently. She was still wearing her wedding dress as was he wearing his tuxedo. People were dancing around him but he kept his eyes on Victoire and kept his focus on gliding them across the floor.

As he turned to twirl her, his back hit someone else’s and disrupted their dancing. Victoire smiled, “Lysander! I’m glad you made it.” Teddy seemed to wake up from his trance and turn around to face the pair. Lysander Scamander was smiling, his blue eyes twinkling with happiness. He hadn’t turned his body completely around; his form was mostly shadowing that of his wife, Lily. Her hair was wavy and tickled the freckled skin that was revealed in her dress. It was a champagne color and she was barely visible save for the fact that she was rested against Lysander’s chest. The man turned and Lily uncoiled herself from him, putting an arm around his waist. “I’m glad you thought to invite me. For a second I thought you had invited the whole Obliviator Headquarters,” he chuckled. Victoire shook her head. “I would have, but Teddy here thought that would be overdoing it,” she squeezed his hand and smiled up at him.

“I wouldn’t want to steal you from your new husband,” Lysander started, offering Victoire a hand, “but I’d love to dance if you could spare one.” Victoire smiled and then looked at Teddy. “You’ll be fine, won’t you be?” Teddy smiled widely and kissed her on the cheek.

“Of course. Here,” he said, offering a hand to Lily, “We’ll trade.”

Lysander smiled at Victoire, taking in her appearance fully. She truly did look magnificent, as she deserved to look on her wedding day. “You look positively stunning, Victoire,” he told her as he danced with her, “I must say that Teddy is rather lucky to have married you. I would have married you myself if I hadn’t already found someone as beautiful.” Victoire flushed, “Thank you, Lysander. You clean up pretty nicely yourself. I’m really glad you and Lily could make it. I don’t know how you manage to fit these things around having children.” Lysander laughed and tightened his grip around her as they twirled. “It’s quite the process. But we got the best baby sitters to watch Skylar and Andy tonight. They will be just fine.”

On the other side of the room, Teddy was holding up his end of the conversation. “I swear, Victoire’s mother scared the life from me,” he laughed as he remembered the woman’s threats in regards to the marriage.

Lily smiled. “It’s been far too long since I have seen you. Who would have thought that growing up together would separate us like this? And now look! You’re getting married. I would have never thought you would get married. You look sharp,” she added with a smile. Lily was holding his hand and his other hand was on her waist, but somehow she managed to keep enough distance between them. She knew he didn’t want that.

“I guess since you got married and started your own family,” Teddy said gently, “It was time for me to move on. Or try to, anyway.”

At these words, Lily pressed her lips together and focused on dancing for a few moments. She didn’t know what to say. “I was excited to see you here tonight. I knew Lysander would come and of course that meant you would come. But I don’t know what to make of it now that you’re here…now that we’re here together.”

Lily sighed and brushed a red curl from her face. She surveyed the room and found her husband still dancing with Victoire. “Things have to stop here, Teddy,” she told him as she shook her head. “You’ve already pointed out that I have a husband and children. You’re married now too, how could you talk about this at your wedding reception?”

Teddy frowned. “So it was different when I wasn’t married? It was better when you were stringing me along, wasn’t it?” Lily shook her head, looking up at him. She knew he hadn’t meant it to sound that way but it still hurt. “I don’t care who distracts me for the time being. Lysander, Victoire, your children…I will love you past all of that opposition.”

She pulled her hand from his shoulder abruptly and caught someone’s arm. “Well I can’t do that for you.”

Luckily, the person she had grabbed was someone she was comfortable with: Ashton Summerby. Lily had befriended him through Dueling Club and found him to be quite a good friend. He was dancing with someone who Lily didn’t know, but she didn’t seem to mind the interjection as she slinked away as soon as she could. “Hi Ashton,” Lily said with a smile and kiss to his cheek. She let him whisk her away, keeping her eyes on him and away from Teddy. She could feel his eyes on her and she didn’t dare look.

After three more dances, she hugged Ashton tightly and told him she was going to take a rest. She made it to the drink table and found a chute of champagne. She took a sip and felt a bit more content. “My love,” someone addressed her, slipping their hands around her. She knew it could only be Lysander. He was the only one who could do something so bold in public and not raise suspicion. Then again, there were so many people to shield everything that it was possible that it could be someone else.

“I couldn’t dance anymore, my feet were killing me.” She turned around and smiled as she confirmed that it was her husband. She kissed him on the lips and then smiled. “I want to go check on the children.”

Lysander kissed her on the forehead and pulled her into a hug. He rested his head atop hers. “I know, but they’ll be okay, they love it with Lorcan.” Lily wrinkled her nose and buried her face into his chest. “I know,” she said in a muffled voice, “I just miss them.” She picked her head up and looked at her husband. She smiled at her and rested his forehead against hers. “We’ll stay just a little bit longer and then we can leave, okay?” She nodded softly and then smiled.

“Lysander!” Someone exclaimed and he picked his head up. He looked around for the source of the noise and spotted Victoire again. Luckily for Lily, her hand was entangled in the girl that Ashton had been dancing with. “This is my friend Dara. She was looking to start in our department soon,” she said excitedly. Dara blushed. “It’s true. I was very excited to hear about any openings.” During conversations like this, Lily simply proved as arm candy; her arm was wrapped around Lysander’s and she was smiling brightly. That was her job from time to time, at certain Ministry functions, and she didn’t mind it.

“Darling,” someone interjected and Victoire beamed, turning around as Teddy appeared, “I’m sure no one wants to talk work at a wedding reception. Not only that, but they need us to cut the cake soon.” He looked at Lily who was still smiling unfalteringly. She leaned her head against Lysander’s shoulder to make a point to Teddy, who soon left with an arm around Victoire. Dara followed the two shortly afterward.

Lily let out a breath she hadn’t known she was holding in and Lysander chuckled. “We’ll be home soon, it’s okay. Relax,” he said with a smile, leading her towards the center where the wedding cake was being wheeled out.

Lily smiled at her husband. He always knew what to say to her. She watched him the entire time as he watched the couple cut the cake. She should have been watching as well, but she couldn’t help it. She was grateful for him; it even made her regret ever cheating on him. She really did love him but had found herself caught up nonetheless.

All of a sudden, she heard her name. “Lily,” Lysander was nudging her gently as he had tried to walk forward but she had remained stationary. She shook her head. “Sorry.” He raised an eyebrow at her but then sighed. “Come on. I have to say goodbye to Victoire.” Lily shook her head again gently. “I think I need some air. I’ll wait outside; it’s feeling a bit stuffy in here.” Lysander nodded and smiled. “All right. I shouldn’t be long. Keyword,” he said, kissing her, “shouldn’t.” Lily smiled before turning towards the exit.

She was met with a somewhat chilling cold and the rain that seemed to be falling gently. She rubbed her arms slowly, moving quickly out of the rain to stand under a safe haven. She was wearing a strapless dress and her hair was done nicely; she hadn’t really prepared herself for the cold or the rain, yet her hair was already starting to become damp. She turned to go back inside when she crashed into a warm, solid body.

She looked up and frowned. “Don’t look so excited to see me,” Teddy said, watching her. She folded her arms but rubbed her hands against her shoulders. It was too cold and wet to be angry. “Aren’t you supposed to be cutting cake with your wife?” Teddy put his hands in his pockets and then looked over at Lily. “We cut the cake almost ten minutes ago. Weren’t you paying attention?” Lily flushed a violent red and turned her head, stubbornly letting the curls become soaked slowly.

“Listen, before you left,” Lily nearly jumped as she sensed Teddy’s voice was close to her. He was right before her and he had removed his jacket, sliding it around her shoulders and pulling the hood to her head, “I wanted to apologize. I hate leaving things on such a sour note with you. I know what you asked me to do was a legitimate request; I respect the family you have created for yourself. It’s just unreasonable from my point of view, especially because I love you. I can’t help it if there are things in the way of it. I will do anything to - ” Teddy frowned, stopping himself.

Lily pulled his jacket close around her. It was really doing a job at keeping her warm, and his scent in the jacket was starting to intoxicate her as well. She felt like all of her progress was rescinded. “I know. What do we do now? I’m happy where I am; I have always been happy with Lysander. I can’t describe what it is about you that made all of this happen, but it wasn’t situational. What I felt when I was around you – I still feel it – it isn’t something I can just push away. It could happen again.” She folded her arms across her chest.

“Would you want it to?” asked Teddy genuinely, watching her carefully. She looked down at her feet, unsure of what to say. Before she could think of anything, Teddy leaned forward and kissed her gently. She didn’t move out of shock and when he pulled away from her, she could only stare at him. They remained standing there for a few more moments and as Lily went to open her mouth, someone interrupted.

“Here you are,” Lysander said as he burst out of the doors. The sound of laughter and talking was loud before the door was shut and it was silent once again.

He turned to Teddy and smiled. “Thanks for keeping her company out here.” Lily was silent as she shrugged Teddy’s jacket off of her shoulders and handed it to him with a quiet thanks. She was clearly still caught up in the kiss she had just received and with her husband so close, she felt like he could smell it from her. “Why didn’t you come back inside if you didn’t have a jacket, Lily?”

Teddy clapped Lysander on the back, “It’s no problem.” He smiled at the other man like nothing had happened. “It was nice to see you here, the both of you. I hope to be able to see you soon,” he said with a grin. “The same to you,” Lysander said with a smile, wrapping an arm around Lily, “enjoy your day.”

Lily felt like she was in a different world. Teddy shouldn’t have kissed her; she couldn’t stop thinking about it. This was how everything started; she didn’t need it to start again. She had children and most importantly a husband who loved her. She wouldn’t jeopardize that for a few stolen kisses and secret meetings with Teddy. He was married now too; he should be treating Victoire like a queen, not trying to woo her cousin. She was starting to feel weak in the knees and she was rather eager to get away from Teddy’s comfortable stare. How could he look at her so openly in front of her husband and make her feel so horrible? Teddy headed inside and Lysander turned to Lily, kissing her forehead. It temporarily purged her thoughts. “Let’s go now.” She nodded numbly, allowing him to Apparate them away. She was not excited to be alone with Lysander while her thoughts were with Teddy. She was not eager at all.
