Angelina starts the letter a million times.
"Dear Katie, I've just finished reading about you in the Daily Prophet. It seems so surreal to me, that you could be lying in a hospital bed while I'm so far away. I wish I could be there for you, but I'm stuck in India with my family. They can't seem to understand why I'd want to leave. They don't know how close we were. Somehow I couldn't share you with them the way I did Alicia. They all knew about Alicia, but you're different, Katie. How could I explain your lightness and laughter?"
"Dear Katie, I am shocked to hear that you're in St. Mungo's. You, the girl with a thousand stories of hilarious mishaps, Quidditch fouls, and clumsiness? Don't get me wrong, I always thought it adorable the way you were always getting into trouble. Remember that time the twins accidentally gave you a Nosebleed Nougat? So you see, not always your fault, though you could be rather clumsy sometimes. It makes me smile to think of it, to remember you."
"Dear Katie, you should have warned me when I left how much I'd miss you."
"Dear Katie, I've just heard about the curse, and I am so sorry I can't come to see you. I miss you terribly, but my family is being difficult and I seem to be stuck in India for the time being. I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery, and I sincerely hope the bastard who cursed you gets what he deserves. If I were there, I wouldn't rest until I'd caught him, and I hope your friends know enough to do likewise. Yours, Angelina."
Katie Bell groaned. Here she'd thought she'd grown out of this silly crush, and now a get well card was threatening to break her again. She pictured Angelina in India, having a grand time with her family, hastily scribbling out a casual note before heading out into the world again. Did she really care, or was she just sparing Katie's feelings? Katie thought she'd never know. She let the letter drift slowly into the trash bin and tried to remember what was important -- getting well and finishing school, and forgetting Angelina.
