1. The Yule Ball was getting to be too much for her and for all of Davies’ good looks and charm he seemed to be quite unsure of himself. She’d tried, several times, to hold conversation only to find him nod along unquestioningly, without so much a single opinion, and an ever present blank stare. Annoyed with her date’s lack of conversation skills, and the raucousness of the Ball, she’d finally pardoned herself and walked out towards the gardens to get away from it all.

She took a deep breath and then slowly blew out, feeling her frustrations wane with each exhale. By her fourth breath, the weight of the challenges she would be facing in the coming months was beginning to lessen. After her sixth exhale, her thoughts shifted as she laughed at the irony of being a girl who was seen as so beautiful that only a handful would dare approach. Sometimes, when her thoughts followed along this dark, familiar, trail, she wished for a hairy mole, a grotesque scar, a freak blemish of some sort that would mar her magnificence; maybe she would seem more approachable that way. Than again, when considering humans and their vanity, these marks, these “imperfections,” would result in her initial problem: being unapproachable.

“Excuse me miss,” a firm voice from behind interrupted her thoughts.

Turning around she saw a young red haired man standing before her in simple dress robes and horn rimmed glasses. She recognized him as one of the Ministry officials from the tournament, but couldn’t recall his name.

“Oui Monsieur?”

“You shouldn’t be outside in this cold. Headmaster Dumbledore had very strict instructions about that,” he answered haughtily.

“Ah, pardon me, I was feeling a bit, eh, claustrophobic,” she explained, “I weel go back in a moment.”

The young man visibly relaxed at that. “Understandable. Are you alright then?”

“Yes, ah, thank you Mr.…?”

“Weasley, Miss Delacour. I believe we met briefly during the weighing of the wands.”

“Yes, of course. I apologize; my memory for names is so ‘orrible.”

Percy nodded. “Yes, well, see to it you come inside soon. Good evening Miss Delacour.”

Fleur returned his farewell, and watched as he walked back inside, before she too took leave of the gardens. “Well,” she thought, a slow smile growing on her face, “maybe a little more than a handful.”

2.

They peered anxiously over the edge of the floating raft, waiting for their respective younger siblings to appear. Percy had reassured her, time and again, that, “Whether the contestant wins or loses, nothing fatal can happen. We’ll see our siblings soon looking wet, but none the worse for wear.” Even with these reassurances neither could look away, couldn’t stop the treacherous thought of, “What if?”

It was five minutes after Cedric Diggory had brought Cho Chang to the surface that they saw two bodies floating nearby. Without a moment’s hesitation, Percy quickly reached for both bodies, not caring if he fell in or not. His brother came aboard the raft first and then, with Ron’s help, Fleur’s sister. Harry came shooting up out of the water a moment later and Percy couldn’t help but give his brother’s best friend a heartfelt thank you.

The next day, Percy saw Fleur walking her sister to a smaller version of the flying Beauxbaton carriage the students had arrived in while some of her friends waited nearby. He passed by and gave a wave to both ladies as the carriage readied itself to leave.

“Monsieur Weasley,” the younger sister called out from near the carriage.

Pausing, Percy turned and began to walk towards the carriage, curious as to why the young girl was asking for him, “Yes, Miss Delacour?”

The girl looked towards her sister and then back at Percy and blushed. “Thank you,” she whispered.

“You’re quite welcome, Miss Delacour,” was his calm reply, “Have a safe trip.”

The girl nodded happily, kissed her sister on each cheek, boarded the carriage, and sat back as the coach took off.

He watched till the carriage left his sight, then turned to see Fleur standing directly beside him, looking just as shy as her sister had. She leaned in, close enough for him to smell her perfume, and placed a lingering kiss on his cheek.

“Thank you, Percy Weasley.”

3.

“So, is she your girlfriend or not, Perce?” Bill asked as they navigated their way through the stands to find seats near the rest of their family.

“She’s not my girlfriend, Bill. We just tend to have dinner together in the main hall,” Percy answered.

“Oh really,” Bill said with a large smile as they found their seats.

“Yes, really,” Percy replied exasperated, “Look, she’s coming out of the locker room now.”

“Hey Charlie, Mum, it’s Percy’s girlfr-” Bill choked on his words when he saw the girl in question walking out from the locker rooms towards the starting line. Honestly, he’d been expecting a young lady not unlike the last girl Percy had dated; all glasses and sort of gawky looking. There could be no comparison to this girl though. Looking at Charlie and his father, he could see she had the same affect on them.

“Percy, you didn’t tell us you had a girlfriend,” his mother observed affably, unaware of both her older sons’, and husband’s, open mouthed stares as they watched Percy’s girlfriend take her place next to the other Triwizard champions.

“Bill, it’s Fleur’s first day on the job. Could you please look out for her? Just help her avoid some of the pitfalls that come with being the new girl and what not,” Percy asked as he walked along with Bill on their way to work.

“Percy, didn’t I already tell you I’d look out for your new girlfriend?” Bill replied good-naturedly.

Percy sighed, “Your right, I’m sorry. I’m just worried something bad’s going to happen. She’s been in England before, but she’s never lived here till now and I want to make sure it all goes smoothly for her.”

“Why not just let her move in with you then?”

“We’ve only been seeing each other for a month now, Bill. Besides, Mum would kill me,” Percy explained.

“Alright, alright, I get it,” Bill acquiesced.

“Percy,” a voice thick with a French accent called from behind.

Percy turned to see Fleur running towards him looking rather distraught, “Are you alright Fleur?”

“Yes, what time is it?”

“Ten till eight,” Bill offered.

Fleur muttered something to herself in French that Bill took to be a few curse words. “I meant to be at work ten minutes ago, but ze bathroom was held up for so long.”

“Fleur you’ll be wonderful. Don’t worry,” Percy assured her.

“Yeah, no one usually shows up for another five minutes anyways,” Bill told her with a quick smile.

“Good,” Fleur said after her initial panic had subsided.

“Yes, well, I have to go to work now. Fleur, love, have a good day at work,” Percy said tenderly as he dropped a quick peck on Fleur’s waiting lips. “Bill, please look out for her.”

“Course Percy,” Bill said with a grin, “I’ll take great care of her.”

Lol @ Molly, gosh I love her so much. xD

I really enjoyed this, their interaction is so subtle but entirely believable - and the time-frame you chose is excellent, because it fits in just so well with canon. Well done! :D
