Amos shuffled papers on his desk and sighed, running a hand nervously through his hair. He hadn't done a single thing at work for weeks, pushing all of his tasks on others in the office. The head of the department had already started giving Amos stern looks whenever he passed through; it was only a matter of time before there was disciplinary action.

But Amos could not concentrate. Every time he sat behind his desk, he could think only of Lucius Malfoy, sitting in the very same chair with his polished silver boots up on the desk. If only he had never found Amos's office, that first day, then surely none of this would have happened.

No, if only Amos had been able to control himself from the beginning, from the day he saw Lucius kissing Yaxley after Herbology on that terribly fateful evening. That was the origin of the mess. Amos could not blame Lucius for a life in shambles; it was Amos who was to blame. But how could he have known who Lucius and Georgiana would eventually become?

There was a knock on the door, and Amos looked up to see Frederick Towler, who was looking grim. "We need those revisions on the werewolf registry by the end of the day, Amos. How's it looking?"

"Oh, not a problem," Amos replied, forcing a very false grin onto his face. "It's coming along splendidly."

Towler did not seem convinced. "All right, then," he said uncertainly. "You know it'll be both our heads if it doesn't get done."

Amos frowned. "It'll get done," he said firmly. Frederick nodded and closed the door. "Eventually," Amos muttered, shuffling through his papers once more. He didn't even know where the revisions were at this point. His desk, like his life, was a disaster.

Lucius pulled back and collapsed onto the bed, breathing heavily with his arm draped across Amos's chest. "You are stunning, as always," he panted, smiling deviously.

"I don't feel stunning," Amos replied darkly. He was tired of his cheap rented room; it smelled of sex and dirty clothing. He missed the smells of home -- Georgiana's perfume and Cedric's finger painting. Cedric loved finger painting, though he usually preferred painting walls over parchment. Amos smiled at the image, and nearly cried at the misery of it all, missing his son whilst lying beneath a Malfoy.

"Do not mope, my darling," said Lucius, touching Amos's cheek tenderly, his eyes gleaming in their usual alluring way. "We could be happy together, couldn't we?"

"Perhaps," Amos replied, closing his eyes. The absence of sight merely made everything else worse, the smells and the heavy weight of a sweaty Lucius upon him. Amos opened his eyes and gazed dully upon Lucius. "I don't know."

"I don't know how many times I can say how much I care about you," Lucius said firmly, kissing Amos, his lips pressed in the corner of Amos's frown. "I do not revel in your sadness, and I do not smile upon your misfortune. I only dismiss the woman because she takes you from me."

"How comforting."

"If you are not happy with me, Amos, by all means, banish me from your life. Do not use me merely to satisfy your loneliness. A Malfoy does not take well to being used."

"More apt to do the using, I'd imagine," Amos replied darkly.

"I have never used you," Lucius said, equally dark, his silky voice low, nearly menacing. "Think what you wish of me, but know this one thing. I have never used you."

"That's a lie," Amos countered, stiffening; Lucius moved away from him, sitting up, and Amos did the same, his back pressed against the headboard. "In the beginning, when we first met? You hated me. You teased me for your own satisfaction, with no thought as to my well-being. You tormented me."

Lucius grinned at him. "Perhaps that is so," he said lightly; his change in tone was startling. "But only as a result of my own ignorance, Amos. For I adored you the moment I laid eyes upon you; I was merely blind to the fact until you kissed me."

Amos couldn't help it; he smiled back. "Is that really so? I never know with you."

"Know it," said Lucius firmly, and he lunged forward, crashing his mouth upon Amos's. "I am overcome with need for you, Amos," he hissed, biting Amos's lower lip, as his hands grasped at Amos's torso.

"I don't even know where I am," Amos replied weakly, allowing himself to sink into the pillows, to sink back into the tumultuous ocean that was Lucius Malfoy. "My life has been shattered into a million little pieces, and I don't know how to put it back together. I'm a mess, Malfoy."

"Then allow me to glue you," said Lucius, caressing him, kissing him, pinning him to the bed. "I will put you back together, Diggory."

"And return to Narcissa after you've finished," Amos replied, arching his body up to meet Lucius, groaning as their bodies touched. "Leaving me alone again."

"Do not speak her name while we are together this way," Lucius said, placing a finger shakily over Amos's lips. "I can't decide on that now."

"Of course not," said Amos, who felt the tears threatening once more, and hated himself for his weakness. He was a man; he should have been working things out on his own, not crying as Lucius Malfoy claimed his body once more. "You'll be the death of me," Amos whispered, squeezing his eyes shut. He felt lost, in every sense of the word.

Lucius speaks like he's quoting "Love Letters of Great Men"... Such words are too heavy for a small, dark room that is not even worth Cedric's finger paintings! My mind likes to stick to the image of a drawing Cedric, because the other parts are so depressing. Poor Amos. He got himself in such a huge mess that I can't imagine the best glue in the world could fix it again. Looking forward to your solution to this! *coughs* Happy ending... *nudge, nudge*
