Fic: Have Patience (Neville/Cho)
Title: Have Patience
Character Pairing: Neville/Cho
Prompt: without warning
Rating: G
Word Count: 732
Summary: Neville’s first incident at Hogwarts and his introduction of Harry to Cho
Author's Notes: I was always curious as to what happened to Neville after breaking his arm. He just seemed to have been briefly forgotten so I decided to write this. Oh, the title was taken from a Coalesce song

“…and it just took off,” Neville said for the third time that day.
“Neville, brooms don’t just take off by themselves. They have to have some sort of propulsion,” Cho said as she sat on the edge of the cot. Neville had been lying here for an hour now, his arm almost fully healed. Truth be told she’d felt a little bad that she hadn’t been there. She had promised her father she’d look after Neville during his first year and she’d already failed on his first day.
“Well, this one did,” Neville grumbled as he looked at his swollen arm.
Cho sighed. “Poor Neville, only your first day in classes and you’re already in the infirmary. You know your Gran’s probably going to hear about this.”
“Don’t remind m- Oh no,” he yelled, quickly sitting up and then falling back just as quickly once the pain in his arm reminded him why he was in the infirmary.
“Neville you’re not supposed to be moving around yet! The potion takes a couple of hours, you know.”
“I lost my remembrall. Gran gave it to me before I got on the train and told me not to lose it,” Neville said, almost on the verge of tears. Why did his first year have to start off so dismally?
“Oh, well don’t worry Neville. Your Gran won’t kill you or anything.” Cho had been around the woman on several occasions since first going to Neville’s house with her father and knew that while the woman was full of bluster and bite she was also just and forgiving, for the most part anyways.
“Um hullo,” a voice from behind them said. Cho turned to see a short boy with messy brown hair and beautiful green eyes holding a small glass ball that kept flashing red.
“Hello,” she said, her eyes resting on the scar on his forehead.
“I just came to bring by Neville’s remembrall,” the boy said as he placed the glass ball in Neville’s good hand.
“You found it! Thanks Harry,” Neville said as he quickly pocketed the remembrall, hoping against hope that he might not ever lose it again.
“You’re welcome Nev. How’s your arm mate,” Harry asked.
“It’s alright. Madame Pomfrey says it should be healed by dinnertime tonight.”
“Great to hear,” Harry said with a smile.
“Oh Harry,” Neville said, suddenly remembering his manners, “this is my friend Cho Chang. Cho, this is Harry Potter.”
Harry nodded in Cho’s direction. “Um hello,” he said quietly.
“Hello,” Cho replied back, still in shock at meeting The Boy Who Lived in person. He was so average looking that it surprised her. She had always pictured a taller boy, one with blonde hair and blue eyes, but the boy in front of her looked just like any other eleven year old, save a small lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead.
“Er well Neville I’ve got to get back to the room and clean up a bit, but remind me to tell you what happened during the rest of the lesson, alright,” Harry said, undoubtedly feeling awkward from the stares of the others.
“Alright Harry, see you at dinner,” Neville said cheerfully.
“ Bye Nev , Cho,” Harry said with a wave before leaving.
Cho watched as Harry left and then turned to Neville, who was taken with something on the ceiling. “You didn’t tell me you knew Harry Potter,” she said in a shrill whisper.
“Oh right, he’s one of my dorm mates. I thought you were at the sorting yesterday.”
“I was, but that’s not the point. So what’s he like?”
“He seems pretty nice so far, but I don’t know him all that well. We just met.”
“He seems very unassuming.”
Neville merely nodded, unsure of what to say to that. “So are you still planning to try out for the Ravenclaw team this year,” he said. It had long been Cho’s dream to be a quidditch player like her mother had been in school and Neville sincerely hoped to see her achieve it.
“I am,” Cho said proudly. “Are you still coming out to see me?”
“It’s at four right?”
“Five, Neville,” Cho said kindly. Neville liked that she never rolled her eyes and she was always patient with him, even when he did exasperate her a little.
“I’ll be there then,” Neville said, touching his remembrall for good luck.
