FICLET: Soft Not Hard (Hermione/Katie)
Title: Soft Not Hard
Pairing: Hermione/Katie
Prompt: free fall
Rating: PG13 (for light angst and one naughty word)
Word Count: 565
Summary: So you found him because it was easier (he was stupid enough not to ask questions) and because he was quite the opposite (hard not soft) and his (hard) arms held you to his (hard) chest while his (hard) hands found your (hard) heart and squeezed.
Author's Notes: The thirteenth prompt. Wanted to end it on an uplifting note, since I've put Hermione and Katie through so much angst already. Hope you enjoy :)

You were reminded of the first time she wanted to take you on her broom (then take you later, in the forest just beyond earshot of Hagrid’s shack, oh you’ll never be able to look him in the eye again) and how it jolted so suddenly between your legs (strict reminder that you never wanted anything “woody” there at all) and you lost your balance from at least fifty (felt like a hundred) feet in the air and toppled downwards. You remembered the free fall was like slow motion, head first towards the grass and your eyes were closed and you heard nothing but the rush of wind in your ears, distantly aware that the top three buttons of your blouse had come undone (the wind licked the skin of your breasts like her fingers later) and you stopped suddenly and saw (after finally opening your eyes) the greenest grass inches away from your face. Then you were on your back looking at her (her wand was out, she was smiling) and you were very grateful then that she had been prepared for you to have no idea how to fly.
(she made you fly in other ways)
After the forest it was like the free fall all over again (the wind harder and moving everywhere now instead of just your chest), you falling into something (praying for soft not hard please soft not hard) and you could not let a single person know how afraid you were, not even she and when she realized this (you doddering idiot), that you could not give yourself to her fully because you were scared (shitless) and you were already bracing yourself for impact (so much for soft) she was gone and your head struck (split) and no one was there to cry out a spell to stop you mid-air so there wasn’t even ground to hit, just hard hard hard rocks.
(your head split in half you could not even cry)

(like getting blood from stones)
It only took two weeks (too long) for him to tell you he loved you, and the words (jumbled up on your tongue) felt too wrong to return so you left him (speechless) and you found her coming back from the pitch (alone) and she was covered in mud from practice (she smelled of sweat and grass stains) and you clutched her shoulders (soft even the bones felt softer) and you said it to her instead (and kissed her before she could stop you) and the free fall happened again and you prayed once more for soft not hard.
(the look she gave you was soft enough)
Later in the forest she laid you (out) and it was soft not hard and you remembered the first time second time third time final time and this time now this time and when she held you (soft) to her (soft) chest you told her (softly) you were sorry and she smiled (soft).
(quite like re-reading a forgotten favorite book so easily remembered were the details and so fresh the feeling of rediscovery)
