They walked back from Hogsmeade hand in hand; they were cutting the trip short. Not because they weren’t having a marvelous time, Ginny just refused to be showered in gifts and he couldn’t handle her window shopping much longer without snapping. He was willing to buy her all of this little village if that was what it took, but of course the little fire cracker to his left wouldn’t even hear of it. She didn’t want things to show her how he felt, she wanted words and actions. But Blaise didn’t know the words to use. He’d never wanted to keep a girl so badly. Usually he just wanted them for a day or a night. His longest relationship was two weeks, how was he ever going to convince her that this was more than any of that?

He glanced over at her and saw the grin that curved her lips and found his mimicking it. He squeezed her hand gently tossing her a wink. Her grin spread in response as she squeezed back, suddenly she noticed the little white flakes falling slowly through the sky. She tracked an especially large one to the tip of her nose which scrunched as it landed. Her giggle cut through the afternoon air like a ray of sunshine.

As her eyes met his again, her smile nearly splitting her face she murmured, “First snow on our first real date? How’s that for romance.”

He grinned down at her and tucked her hair behind her ear cupping her face, “I told you I’d make it memorable.”

“Oh, so this is somehow your doing, is it?” Was Ginny’s coy reply as she laced the fingers of her free hand into the hair at the nape of his neck.

“Of course not,” Blaise chuckled softly, “but, I did check the forecast and did see that it might snow today.”

Ginny let out a loud laugh and disentangled herself from him. The snow was falling in heavy sheets around them now as she twirled with her arms out and her head tilted backwards. She stuck her tongue out to catch a few falling flakes as her twirling slowed to a stop.
Blaise watched in awe as the little fire sprite was enthralled by the falling powder. She was easily the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Not for any of the traditional reasons, but because there was this warm, caring creature. So full of life and fire, and she was lost completely in this frozen world. This world of snow and ice and cold. A world so like him, and she wasn’t running away. She was opening her arms wide and embracing it in the only way she knew how; arms wide open, eyes closed tight. He walked towards her and wrapped her tightly in his arms.

“I love you,” he whispered into her ear as he nuzzled her neck, “so very much. I just now realized it, so don’t feel like you have -”

She turned in his arms abruptly cutting his off by placing her lips gently on his. Before he could respond to the kiss she pulled away, “I love you too. Or at least I’m getting there. For now though, I think we should head back to Hogsmeade.”

“And why should we do that? I thought we agreed to head back to the castle.”

“We did, but I think my boyfriend owes me a nice warm butter beer first.”
