Oh gosh I Roleplay Rodolphus/Narcissa too. I love the idea of it provided that they're both looking to be loved because their spouse pretty much ignores them.
For me... I have this massive Bellatrix fic I've been working on for years now and the best way I could see to make Bellatrix work and stay in character was that she's desperate to please someone. Always. Druella hated her because Cygnus doted on her and her own Father treated her like rubbish because she was a girl. So she spends her childhood making Cygnus happy. Then she moves onto Rodolphus. And by the time she gets to Voldemort it's become an obsession. And, in my canon, she and Rodolphus have a number of miscarriages. And with each one she becomes more obsessed with pleasing the Dark Lord because she feels she's ruined everything for Rodolphus.
But yes, that's generally how I see it. So I suppose it's more, the love is there it's just taken a lot of hard knocks and neither of them no what to do with it.
