Her mother's questioning echoed in her mind as Ginny took off from the Burrow. Her broom rose in the air, taking her into the night sky. She couldn't shake Molly's disappointment and it weighed heavy on her shoulders. Ginny knew how badly Molly had wished for a happy ending. After the war, the Weasleys needed as many good things to happen as possible. But Ginny wasn't about to sacrifice her own happiness to make those around her feel better.
Ginny didn't bother to set a course. She flew high among the clouds, letting each grey wisp wash over her. The moisture from the clouds masked the tears rolling down her cheeks. She knew what she wanted. Try as she might to ignore the feelings she had, Ginny couldn't pretend any longer. The man that set her heart racing and her stomach flipping wasn't who everyone thought it was. In her dreams each night, it was a pair of strong and dark hands that moved across her pale skin. It was a deep voice that sent shivers along her spine. And it was a rare smile that few saw that made Ginny's stomach flip.
She knew her desires were foolish. Ginny pushed herself higher into the clouds, hoping to erase ever thought of Kingsley from her mind. The air became thinner and Ginny's fingers grew cold. Just a bit longer and she'd be able to forget. It was just a crush, she told herself. Just a stupid crush that didn't mean anything. The looks that went for a bit too long and the small smiles over dinners at the Burrow were just figments of her imagination.
Soon, Ginny had flown so high that she couldn't think. Her mind had become a fog. The ability to actually think had left her about twenty feet ago. However, in her effort to stop thinking, Ginny had succeeded in not being able to breath. Ginny quickly changed her direction and flew back towards the Burrow. Her shoulders shook with gasping breaths as she plummeted towards the ground.
Her landing wasn't what you would call graceful. In fact, Ginny rolled off her broom and onto the grass. Once again she found herself laying next to the small pond and staring up at the sky. She swore at herself for losing control over her emotions like that. It was her biggest flaw and she hated it. Ginny's eyes closed as she caught her breath. Perhaps next time she was trying to escape, she wouldn't fly so high.
Just as he had a few weeks before, Kingsley seemed to appear from nowhere. “Your body isn’t designed to fly to the moon. Don’t push yourself to the point of death, Ginny.” As always, his voice was calm and measured. He spoke as though he was telling her exactly what she wanted to hear, rather than the opposite.
Ginny pushed herself up and glared over at him. “You don’t know what my body can or can’t do.” The moment the words were out of her mouth, Ginny’s cheeks turned as scarlet as her hair. She hadn’t meant for it to come out that way, but it had.
Kingsley smirked slightly and looked down at the young woman. “No, I don’t. But I have a few ideas.” With that, Kingsley turned and apparated away leaving Ginny sitting on the bank of the pond with her mouth hanging open.
