Georgiana rolled over on top of Amos and laughed lightly as she kissed him, as she ran her nails lightly over his skin, slipping up his chest. "It's been far too long," she said happily between kisses, as her lips trailed a path across Amos's cheek and neck.
"Indeed, it has," Amos replied, holding her close, savoring the softness of her. He was too used to Lucius and his roughness, his dominance. It was nice to be with Georgiana for a change; Amos found her refreshing and comfortable, a reminder of easier times. He wondered if things could ever be this easy again.
Georgiana kissed Amos's neck, and slowly lifted her head to stare her husband in the eyes. "Amos," she said, and Amos felt something break inside him; she looked frightened and confused. She looked upset.
"What is it?" He wondered if he had somehow given himself away. Had he not held her tight enough? Had he not spoken affectionately enough? Perhaps Lucius had changed him too much, and he had forgotten how to be in love properly. Not that he loved Lucius Malfoy. Amos had admitted many terrible things about himself, but he would never go that far.
Georgiana's eyes narrowed slightly. "What is this on your neck, love?" She touched his skin, and Amos was rather forcefully reminded of an earlier encounter, one during which Lucius had pinned him to a wall and kissed him, with teeth. Lucius had promised it wouldn't leave a mark.
"What?" Amos wriggled out from under his wife and rolled out of bed in a panic, rushing for the nearest mirror. His heart sank at the sight of it, the dark little bruise where his neck met his shoulder. It had felt so good at the time, and he hadn't even thought to look at himself before returning home. "Oh, Merlin."
"Merlin? Or Malfoy?" Amos turned to see that Georgiana had risen up in bed and was wearing a terrible expression. She was still so beautiful, with her ruffled hair, mussed clothing, pink lips and those brilliantly green eyes. Amos had always been attracted to expressive eyes. "I think you might have the wrong M name."
He supposed he could have said it was a spell mark, a side effect from a backfiring curse or whatnot. But it was too much, and he felt overwhelmed; he had lied for far too long, and he couldn't bear it. Georgiana did not deserve this. "I'm not entirely sure what to say," Amos confessed, closing his eyes, unable to look at her. "I have tried, very hard."
"Not hard enough." Amos heard the rustle of the bedsheets, and he looked miserably down at the floor; he could see Georgiana climbing out of bed out of the corner of his eye. "I can't believe this! After all this time? Still Malfoy? Or was it some cow at the office?" She grabbed his arm, startling him into looking at her; her eyes were dark and furious. "Did she wear some racy knickers, maybe those platform heels they're into these days?"
"No," Amos choked out, feeling his face flush and his stomach clench; he couldn't believe he was about to say it aloud. "I was with Lucius."
She made a strangled noise of fury and turned away from him. "Obviously."
"It's not like I didn't want to end things," Amos said quietly. "I did try as best I could. But Lucius – he has this way of turning you around. He's very persuasive. But I will cut him off if you ask me to. I have to. I love you, Georgiana."
Georgiana turned back to her husband and slapped him hard across the face. "Fuck you," she spat, gritting her teeth at him. "I can't believe I trusted you all this time! You're despicable. You sicken me, and I can't have you in the house any longer. You need to leave, Amos!"
"But, Georgiana."
"No, Amos!" She threw her arms out in anger, and Amos flinched as several perfume bottles on the dresser exploded, sprinkling him with drops of Georgiana's fragrance. "I won't have it!" Georgiana cried, and the closet door burst open, sending Amos's robes flying out onto the floor.
"You're using magic," Amos said wildly, backing up in a panic and hoping to avoid any more of Georgiana's rage. "You're using accidental magic."
"Oh, it's not accidental," Georgiana snarled. "Just like your flings with Lucius. Don't try to claim he forced you into it. 'Persuasive.' Disgusting."
"Please, can't we discuss this rationally? I'm sorry, you have no idea how sorry I am."
"Just get out!" Amos ducked as Georgiana's hairbrush flew off the edge of the dresser, very nearly clocking him off the head. "I am deadly serious, Amos, I want you out of my house this instant!"
Georgiana did not shed a single tear, not as she watched Amos gather a few of his belongings, not as she stood at the door and watched him Apparate away. She did not cry, not even as Amos reached out to her with tears in his own eyes; she merely watched him, and slammed the door once he'd gone.
*****
"It's as though a bomb has gone off in my own life," Amos said miserably, leaning heavily against the door frame. "It's atomic."
"I do hope you're not here expecting an apology," Lucius replied, tugging at Amos's collar. "For somehow, I can't seem to find it in me to care."
"As expected," Amos said darkly. He hated Lucius then, hated him more than he ever thought he could hate a human being. And still, when Lucius kissed him, Amos allowed himself to kiss back, allowed himself to stumble over the threshold and into Lucius's bedroom. Even as he could smell the scent of his wife on his clothes, he allowed Lucius to undress him. For Amos had nowhere else to go, and Lucius was always very persuasive.
