I now love this pair so hard, too. I'll admit that it probably wouldn't have occurred to me to put these two together without the prompt (what with the impossibility of them ever actually meeting in canon), but as soon as I thought about it, I wanted to read a novel-length fic with it. It's a pairing that just should so happen. :D
